Can someone who has NOT installed FrontPage 2003 please tell me what =
your reg keys say in the following:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\xmlfile
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.xml

Or at least tell me in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder options... | =
File Types | xml what you have for the default behavior? Thanks.

If you right click on an xml file and choose 'Open with...' you can then
select IE and check the box 'Always open with' before opening.

Actually that doesn't work right. But that's OK. I happened to have =
saved a HKCR from just after I installed Office 2003. And had the =
correct association. Let me explain to you why your suggestion although =
"correct" doesn't work.

First you will need to remove this key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\xmlfile\shell\open

Make sure you back it up first. Now you will still have an icon =
association for xml file but of course no Open method. Mine had been =
changed to:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\xmlfile\shell\open\command]
@=3D"\"C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\Microsoft =
Shared\\OFFICE11\\MSOXMLED.EXE\" /verb open \"%1\""

and that was the problem. Notice no subkeys. Now go ahead and do your =
suggestion. Choose Microsoft Internet Explorer for the application you =
want to use to open xml files with. And check "use always."

After this go to Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options... | File =
Types | select XML | Advanced | select Open which should be bolded =
signifying this is the default behavior | Edit... | is DDE checked? No =
- that will not happen using the method you suggested. And it should =
be. Complete with all the options there when DDE is selected.

I learned long ago that this method of association has its deficiencies. =
And this is one of them.
