Windows Update won't stop!

Hi,
I'm using my Mac right now becuase my Windows XP Toshiba laptop is unoperable at the moment. White screen, hour glass forever. guess I will shut it down manually AGAIN. I have my laptop set up so that Microsoft will remind me when I need new updates. Well, I haven't used this laptop in several months, so I ticked all the boxes and said update. Now, the little icon on bottom right bar (when I hover over it ) says Downloading updates 0 percent. On top of that, I can't get to any website because I'm guessing this is going to be a HUGE download and it's busy, busy busy. I do have cable high speed internet, so I thought it was a good idea at the time to do all the updates at once.

Please tell me how I can stop this from continuously running. Then maybe I will choose one update at a time.
Thanks!
