Mouse pointer has purple lines following on screen

I have tried to capture an image of this but this doesnt work, even with the program snag it. So I think it might be a problem with the graphics card, or moniter. What happens is two straight lines appear all the time fixed around the mouse pointer on screen. Just wondering how to get rid of them? I have tried restarting, unplugging everything but still appears....

I have a g force 6800gt graphics card, 3.2 ghz processor. windows xp and norton2004.

Hello there,
I don't think this will help you, but it won't do any harm.

I have had a similar problem but only when using 3D applications. The problem i had was with Anti-Aliasing and Direct Draw, the drivers weren't rendering the pointers properly.

My first port of call to fix the problem would be:
  1. Testing directx by typing "dxdiag" on the run menu, see if everything is displayed properly
  2. update directx & graphics hardware drivers (if there is a problem)
  3. turning down the appearance settings to see if that helps

I'm think about more ideas.

Good luck ,
Chris

Ive tried dxdiag, but didnt show up anything wrong, tried the 3d tests as well.
I have directx9.0c and all the drivers installd for graphics card.
Ive also tried changing the appearance.

It seems to be lines that are the boundaries to the whole mouse pointer, like when the hour glass appears next to the pointer it uses that space. It has a shorter pink line to the left and a larger one 1cm away to the right. If i could just make it white or not appear at all.

Anyway thanks for the help anyway, if you have ran out of ideas i think i might try downloading a smart doctor or something.
