Your computer is at risk" Windows did not find spyware protection on this computer Click to choose a recommended spyware protection spyware" of course, this is BS, because I've got enough protection. I tried to rid my system from this pesky pop up, but to no avail. It constantly bombards me over and over again. The icon appears to be a yellow sign, with a (!) point right in the middle. See, there it goes again. Can someone help????!!!!!!!!! Thanks, Rick | | | 03-06-2005, 10:29 PM | #2 | | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2004 Posts: 454 | This is part of Windows XP SP2. If you click on that message you will most likely go to the "Windows Security Center". From there, you can disable those messages using the first link to the left of the screen that appears. | | | 03-07-2005, 11:16 PM | #3 | | Registered User Join Date: Jan 2005 Location: El Paso, Texas Posts: 16 | Good Morning Mr. Blair, First of all, thank you for responding to my request. Currently, I am only running service pack 1a. I've heard alot of horror stories on service pack 2, from such sources as, pc world, and other respected publications. It seems that lately my computer has been performing very strangely. And if that wasn't enough, today I was attempting to email some resumes to 3 different sites, when all of sudden, I get the following message from AOL, "Sending mail attachments or embedded files with this account is not permitted" I have never had this problem. This problem, I must correct asap. I tried contacting AOL to request someone in the states, but, to no avail. It seems that once again another company is outsourcing thier services abroad. I tried to do some research on this matter. It appears that it is Microsoft Word related. I recently had to reinstall that software from my original installation discs that bundled with this computer when I purchase it in May on 2002. The strange thing is, that file that contains my resume, was created in a word program, and I have been using as an attactment in emails without any problems. That file was created more than 2 years ago. And now, I can't submit any emails with this attachment. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Once again, thank you for your patience and help. I thought for sure that you were running SP2 based on the description of the problem. :) I just finished setting up several PC's and I came across that issue with each one of them. Just to note, in case you didn't know, come the beginning of April, SP2 will be required if you plan on doing any other Windows Updates. Microsoft originally wanted to force people to get SP2 back in August/September but too many companies complained. They removed the force install procedure but plan to put it back in sometime in early April. You can still avoid the install but you won't be able to get any other updates from them until you upgrade fully. :( I've never heard of that issue with AOL either on limiting attachments. I never thought they did that. I'm not sure if this would be possible but have you tried zipping the resume file and then sending it? Maybe they are trying to prevent the spread of viruses. If that doesn't work, let me know and I have plenty of Gmail accounts to pass out. I wouldn't mind sending you one. There are no limits with Gmail that I've found. ;) | | | 03-08-2005, 10:37 PM | #5 | | Registered User Join Date: Jan 2005 Location: El Paso, Texas Posts: 16 | Good Morning Mark! Maaan!!!, I just spent the last 5 hours reformatting and reinstalling windows xp. Piece of cake, but most of time was spent on reloading all the software ie: drivers, printer, scanner, etc. I bought a brand new Maxtor 200 gig external hard drive 3 months ago. Of course being a typicall procrastinator, I put it off using it. It is still in the box. Beleive me, next time I will use it. Anyway, thanks again for you help. As far as the AOL issue, I'm almost sure, that is something that I probably changed by mistake. I will AOL tomorrow to confirm. As far as the reinstall goes, two problems have surfaced. The first, everything seems smaller, programs icons, etc. I want ahead and changed the font size in the display settings, however the problem was not resolved. I am not sure, but I think it has something to do with when you are using the xp installation disk or someting. The second problem, after installing the red drivers cd, I attempted to install the final 2 yellow applications discs, an error message popped up. This is only the second time I've had to use them. Once again, any help that you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, and I hope to hear from you soon. I have never heard of Gmail. Can provide with more details? You've got me interested. You may want to try changing the screen resolution from 1024x768 to 800x600 or vice versa just in case that's the setting that you might be looking for. Also, what is the error message you receive when installing the "yellow applications discs"? It sounds like those discs might be something specific that your PC manufacturer provided. What type of PC do you have? Quote: | Originally Posted by RICK59 Good Morning Mark, I have yet to fix the AOL problem. I have never heard of Gmail. Can provide with more details? You've got me interested. Thanks, Rick | Gmail is Google's version of web-based e-mail. The difference though is instead of getting a webmail account from Yahoo or Hotmail with 2MB or even 100MB of storage, Google provides 1GB (or 1000MB) of storage per account. It's nice for anyone that wants to use the account as their main e-mail account or even just as a backup as I do. Check out their site for full details -- http://gmail.google.com/ Note: Access to Google's Gmail service is still on an invitation only basis. Eventually, anyone will be able to register for an account. If you need an invitation, just let me know. ;) | | | 03-10-2005, 11:19 PM | #8 | | Registered User Join Date: Jan 2005 Location: El Paso, Texas Posts: 16 | Good morning Mr. Blair, Guess what? Just 2 mouse clicks, and I finally fixed the AOL problem. I just unchecked the "Block messages containing pictures of files" box, and walah!! back to normal. As to how that happened, it is still a mystery. I am still left with the other problem. I have tried just about everything in the display settings, but, no dice. This happened to me once, and I was able to fix the problem, but I simply can't recall. I tried the resolution settings, advanced, dpi, fonts, nothing. On several ocassions, I got a message that read, "In order to copy these settings, insert the windows installation disc into the cd-rom" or something to that affect. Once again, Mark, any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
