Question Removing password on my profile

Hi!

I am trying to remove the password from the main account on my computer, but when I try to remove it under User Accounts it keeps telling me that it is required. I'm running Windows XP. I'm totally lost... help!

When you say "main account" are you referring to the Administrator account? As far as I know, you can leave it blank without a password. It's not recommended, but I think I did that once.

Also, when you are trying to remove this password, is the account you are logged into a "Limited account"? If so, then you will not be able to remove it. You will have to log into the the Admin account.

That's correct. If the Administrator assigns you a password then you cannot remove it. It's meant for security purposes.

is the computer yours or are you using someone elses computer? i have windows XP and i own the computer so i was able to go and delete my password....if you are an admin all you have to do is go to user accounts and there is an option which says 'delete password'. they do not recommend it because it is MUCH more stable w/ a password..i kno from first hand experience...jus take the 3 seconds it takes to type the password in at startup......

I think in his case he is not the Administrator of the computer, but simply has an account on it. Only Administrators can set whether or not your account requires a password to use or not. This is for security reasons, so that people cannot remove their password without the Administrator knowing that this has happened.
