How Often Do You Reboot Your Windows Box?

How often do you reboot your Windows machines? Everyday? When they crash? Weekly?

I reboot my computer about once a day, but I don't leave it on all the time because of time constraints (40+ hour a week job and other responsibilities). Because a lot of Windows machines also have memory leaks I find that if I leave it on for a while I begin to have problems.

How about monthly? :D I don't know for sure but it's at least once a week if not longer than that. I use Windows XP Professional on my home PC and outside of doing something myself that causes a problem, I don't have too many issues that cause me to reboot -- knocks on wood!

You may have just jinxed yourself. :D

Jokes aside, I guess your computer is cooled pretty well then? Unfortunetly with all of the machines I have to have running, a stand alone ac (window shaker, in addition to central AC) and still have a problem with my office/room getting warmer than I'd like, thus another reason why I don't run my computers all day.

I have probably eight or nine fans in my case (this includes the video card, one removable hard drive bay, etc.) which more than likely helps a lot. Also, my computers are all in a very chilly basement. Even in the middle of the summer, this place is cold. As far as heat related issues, I don't have any. I have had my fair share of problems though and thankfully some don't require a reboot. ;)

Your pc is probably pretty loud though right? With all those fans that is.

It's not too bad but I'm definitely used to it by now. I should probably get a decibel reader to find out how loud it is. I do know this... a friend got a new Dell and I helped set it up over the weekend. The thing is so quiet I was amazed. I couldn't tell it was on at one point.

I like to shut off my Windows box every few days and give it a break... but before that I would go upwards of a month without restarting, mainly I would restart when I had a service update to do

Yesterday I came home to find my computer off. Everything else (except the monitor which I always turn off) was on. I turned on the computer and just before it got into Windows, my APC started clicking to the battery and the PC rebooted. My first thought was my power outlets weren't producing enough juice to keep things running. But nothing else was having problems. I plugged the APC into a different outlet and it did the same thing. I eventually connected the PC and monitor directly to an outlet (no surge protection) and everything stayed on. However, the PC now reboots just before the Windows splash screen appears. Today it didn't do that but yesterday I had tons of problems with this. You ended up being right and I will now keep my mouth shut about my computer. I should know better than to talk about how I never have problems because it's usually not too long after doing that and BAM! Luckily all seems well now but I either need a new battery for my UPS or a new UPS. :(
