My language bar (WinXP) has completely vanished. When I go to the <Regional and Language Options> preferences, the Language Bar button is greyed out. When I right click the task bar and select the Language Bar from the Toolbars, it's there, but can't be selected. I've also downloaded and installed a regedit file that was supposed to fix the problem, but it made no difference. Any ideas anyone? Thanks. | | | 06-06-2004, 11:04 AM | #2 | | Registered User Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: USA Posts: 5 | If this is what your referring to as your Language Bar then According to Microsoft once this feature is turned off it can't be turned back on....ck out.... http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=WinXP | | | 06-06-2004, 01:23 PM | #3 | | Registered User Join Date: May 2004 Posts: 7 | I checked out the MS article, but it doesn't help. The article only applies if you've got a Group Policy that stops users accessing the Control Panel. I can access the Control Panel, and MS's suggested "workaround" is exactly what I originally described - using the Regional and Language Options. I can do all that, but none of it works, because the Language Bar button is greyed out. Thanks anyway. | | | 06-06-2004, 08:16 PM | #4 | | Registered User Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: USA Posts: 5 | Ok Wax, let's try this website.... Control Panel - Classic (you need classic?) or Category View (Line 145) http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm then scroll down to #194 to "Language Remove or Repair" topic & see if that is what your looking for....other then that I'm clueless as this may be all "Greek" to me <(:-) | | | 06-06-2004, 08:58 PM | #5 | | Registered User Join Date: May 2004 Posts: 7 | I've already downloaded the registry patch (#194) from that site. It didn't work. I'm totally stumped. | | | 07-06-2004, 12:40 PM | #6 | | Registered User Join Date: Jul 2004 Posts: 4 | Same problem I am having the exact problem now. I spent hours on the phone with Dell support and they couldn't figure it out. Basically in the "Language bar" button is greyed out and I can't set the language bar to appear on the task bar at the bottom. In the "Advanced" tab in the "Text Services and Input Language" window, there is an option "System Configuration" and in there there is "Turn off advanced text services". I unchecked this and restarted so many times because this supposely make the language bar button active, BUT it stays checked no matter what i do.... Any idea anyone?? Thanks millions, D | | | 07-06-2004, 03:36 PM | #7 | | Registered User Join Date: May 2004 Posts: 7 | Hi D.A. I think this was how I solved it on my system: Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Languages (tab) > Details > Advanced (tab)... Under "System configuration," uncheck the "Turn off advanced text services" box. Let me know if that helps. | | | 07-06-2004, 03:38 PM | #8 | | Registered User Join Date: May 2004 Posts: 7 | Sorry D.A. I just read your post again, and I realised that you already tried my solution. Maybe that wasn't how I solved it. Seems to obvious. I'll keep thinking about it. | | | 07-06-2004, 03:45 PM | #9 | | Registered User Join Date: May 2004 Posts: 7 | Hi. That was in fact how I finally solved it, but before doing that, I'd also used a registry patch from this site: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm It's patch #194 (langbarrestore.reg). Download and double click. Maybe using both ways was how I cracked it. | | | 07-06-2004, 05:56 PM | #10 | | Registered User Join Date: Jul 2004 Posts: 4 | Thank you for your note. Actually i did try that and still the same issue. Does the "langbarrestore.reg" has to be in certain directly when you double click it?? I downloaded the it into my general download folder and double clicked it from there. Please let me know. Thanks bunch, D | | | 07-07-2004, 01:08 AM | #11 | | Registered User Join Date: May 2004 Posts: 7 | No, the registry patch can be in any directory when you apply it. Sorry I couldn't be of help. I'd be interested to know how you finally solve the problem. Good luck! | | | 07-07-2004, 05:45 AM | #12 | | Registered User Join Date: Jul 2004 Posts: 4 | Thanks Wax, I am still searching for a solution. I will let you know. Uggggggg!!!! Anyone figured this out?? D | | | 08-19-2004, 01:13 PM | #15 | | Registered User Join Date: Aug 2004 Posts: 1 | I'm computer support staff in a small company. One of my users is complaining about a similar problem, albeit with windows 2000 pro and Office XP. The language bar disappears when he opens MS Word, and the "Language Bar" button is grayed out in Control Panel applets. Have had no result either searching the internet, but I may help you with a tip: When the language bar disappears, click "Start" then "Run", type "internat" (without the quotes!) and hit enter. This should bring back the language bar. Even more convenient, you can create a shortcut to run this command and drop it in the "quick launch" area. Have fun. Long live to all party people! PS: When will forums stop requesting registration to be able to post? I mean why do I have to lose 5 minutes of my time registering just to be able to HELP someone? So many times I have chosen rather not to post because of that, although having some valuable info to share. That is without counting the spam that is filling up my account to the limit. Maybe thats why serious people go to newsgroups. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Rate This Thread | | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | All times are GMT -7.
