Hello everybody, Running Windows 2000 pro, CPU is used at a rate of 99% by an Explorer.exe task, only when a specific user has logged onto the machine (normal user with power : sorry, I do not know the terms used by MS in english, in french : "utilisateur avec pouvoir"). Usage is normal when administrator or another user has logged on. Situations are the same, whatever the PC (a Dell Latitude notebook), identified on a domain, is connected to the (Windows NT) network. In the "user" case, it is impossible to launch any Control panel, services, or windows explorer tasks, nor anything else. Only Alt-Ctrl-Del is working, then it is possible to run Task explorer, which shows normal situation, expected for the 99% CPU usage of explorer.exe . 3 anti-virus successively launched have detected nothing. Someone can help me ? Merci d'avance, | | | 03-19-2007, 09:35 PM | #2 | | Registered User Join Date: Mar 2007 Posts: 33 | I'm not sure exactly what may be going on, perhaps something was messed up in use or during the creation of the account. If you need to use it you could always delete it and make a new one to see if it fixes the problem. | | | 03-20-2007, 05:29 PM | #3 | | Registered User Join Date: Mar 2007 Posts: 33 | I would venture a guess that either something is messed up with their user profile, or there is a program that loads automatically when they log in that is doing it. Perhaps even a bit of spyware or malware running on their profile. If they are a power user, they could have enough permissions to make this possible. | | | 03-22-2007, 03:56 PM | #4 | | Registered User Join Date: Mar 2007 Posts: 40 | sounds like spyware, that did the same thing to me a long time ago, and the best way I got rid of it was by rebooting windows xp. | | | 03-22-2007, 05:37 PM | #5 | | Registered User Join Date: Mar 2007 Posts: 33 | Run Spybot, that will find most spyware, and even fix some registry things. If it continues, try deleting the user profile, manually deleting any remaining files, and rebuilding it. | | | 03-23-2007, 03:58 PM | #6 | | Registered User Join Date: Mar 2007 Posts: 40 | spybot fixes errors in the registry? hmm is it free? I've never had much luck for software that claims to fix errors in the registry. | | | 03-25-2007, 08:06 PM | #7 | | Member Join Date: Mar 2007 Posts: 51 | I am wondering if it is just that your computer is not fast enough for what your operating system.
