Default beeping noise

hello, my pc, (pent 3, 256, 120g) has been making a strange noise lately. it started after i installed a seagate 120g. harddrive. it sounds like this: beeedeee.....beeedeee........beeeedeee......beeede ee. when it starts i will start closing programs then it goes away. any ideas spencer? max? see you guys later...........

hi,

can you determine where the noise is coming from? based on what you said, it is possible that it is coming from the hard drive. You might have bought a defective hard drive that makes that noise every time it is being accessed. This HDD needs to be replaced coz I bet it will crash soon. Or it is also possible that the nise comes from your system fan. It might be spinning extra fast adjusting on the load that you are using. But I suggest to eliminate all posibilities, try to determine the source of the noise.

It could mean a number of things but most likely it is either just the noise the harddrive makes when it's accesing data and you're just not used to it or you got a defective drive and that sound in the arm making contact with the patter and whatnot which means it's going to crash sooner or later and you need to return it.
