It appears unable to draw the thumbnails (though it can produce the thumbnails and does not crash when looking at a folder with BMP's in). Error message is unhelpful - just reports an error in explorer.exe Additionaly windows Picture and Fax viewer produces the same problem, though the error this time is on rundll32.exe (I am assuming that this is probably calling the same module or dll as explorer.exe) By changing the file association I can view the JPG images with Internet Explorer, but the thumbview still causes explorer.exe to crash. Changing the folder view to details does not appear to help and neither did changing the folder type from picture to normal files. Any ideas? | | | 02-02-2004, 05:03 AM | #2 | | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2003 Posts: 254 | backup data, format drive, and reinstall windows __________________ One day the child went east. Is this suggestion based on similer experience? | | | 02-02-2004, 09:16 AM | #4 | | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2003 Posts: 254 | Actually, I run Linux at home, so this type of stuff doesn't happen to me. When I did run Windows, it was always easiest to do a format and reinstall when major components of windows failed, especially things like rundll32.exe and explorer.exe. It also produced the best results. Windows has a tendency to get worse when you play around with system files. __________________ One day the child went east. The next, west. Then north. And south. Unfortunately the owner of the PC is not quite ready for the Linux yet. Looks as though it will be a rebuild.......... Thanks again for the replies. | | | 06-16-2004, 02:24 AM | #6 | | Registered User Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: Gothenburg, Sweden Posts: 2 | Hi Tardis, did you reinstall and fix the crashing explorer error? I have the same problem in a folder with visio and png files. Always crashes - files are listed in full, but after a while explorer.exe restarts. It would seem that some enumeration is taking place after listing the files (if I navigate away from the folder fast enough, no crash will happen). Perhaps explorer is fetching more detailed data on every file after having listed them? Supporting this theory is the fact that a crash will happen if I 'mouse-over' some of the files, which generally produces a 'file details mouse tip'. Perhaps XP SP2... | | | 08-02-2004, 10:24 PM | #7 | | Registered User Join Date: Aug 2004 Posts: 1 | Windows Explorer Application Error exception (0xc015000f) etc... "Application Error: The instruction at "0x77f57ec4" referenced memory at "0x00000067". The memory could not be "written". A similar popup appears reading: "Application Error: The exception unknown software exception (0xc015000f) occurred in the application at location 0x77f6fca7." This is not memory related! and reinstalling all the stuff does not work! I so far have edited the registry to give the appearence that explorer doesnt exist and that works for about a minute then fails, I am thinking it is something to do with a windows shell of some sort, when say Im in My Documents for instance and right click to delete a file folder thats when I get the annoying little pop up at least three to six times in a row stating the above mentioned, the screen refreshes and Im back at the desktop, I have noticed now that my cd-roms are no longer recognized and help files are missing leaving a feeling of a couple things, first is a virus and second is a spyware rendering my pc useless to do as I may, now I have discovered that of a simular situation on a friends PC and it was "believe it or not" spyware and with a lot of hard work and spy sweeper 2, I was able to get rid of and fix the problem all it takes sometimes is visiting the wrong evil website to render you with an expensive paper weight, in the meanwhile I will be bound and determined to finger out the problem and keep this updated until solved, any additional input thrown this way is also helpful, and good luck. | | | 10-01-2004, 11:27 PM | #8 | | Registered User Join Date: Oct 2004 Posts: 1 | the instruction at 77f... referenced to the memory 0x00000067 can not be "written" I'm also having the similar problem. At the first time, it just happened when I click on folders in windows explorer. They can be any folder, not particular ones with particular files. Later, it even happend immediately after I open explorer by right clicking on the Start button. Later on, when I'm doing nothing with it, just leaving it there since I'm busy reading boooks, The error also qppears, like: "the instruction at 77f... referenced to the memory 0x00000067 can not be "written" ". When I click debug, all the icons on desktop disappear for the while, the screen is refreshed and exist windows explorer. One time, when I click debug, 3 error more appear, I had to close all of them to exit windows explorer. I thought It was a fault of windows ecplorer, but now, I think it's a problem of the memory because it even happens when I do not open windows explorer. I'm wondering if it's related to the memory block that applications and hardware use, maybe it's because two programs are using the same charater of memory, which leads to the memory cannot be "written" when one application is using it and the other still wants to use it. I just installed some display drivers and soung drivers, Spy sweeper, other software... My system: Pentium 4, 2.8Ghz 1xDDR SDRAM 256MB 333mhz , DIMM 184 pins Windows XP Home SP1 I'm looking forward to your responses. Thanks.
