Being a little hard of hearing, I can't often understand dialog in
movies or other TV programs. So I would like to try headphones.

I have a 12 year old Mitsubishi TV which has audio terminals labeled
"Audio Monitor Output Terminals' described as "Use to connect the
audio of the TV to an audio amplifier". There are also a pair of
terminals labeled "Audio Tuner Output Terminals" described as "Use to
transmit the audio to a Home Theater receiver".

Is it possible to attach headphones directly to one of these pairs of
terminals or is some sort of amplifier needed?

You can try it, but it may not have enough volume. Try the "Audio Monitor
Output Terminals" which are probably volume controlled with the TV remote.
The other output is probably fixed line level, where the volume would be
controller by a Home Theater Receiver.

If you have an old stereo receiver with a headphone jack, that might work
better. Of course, a headphone amp would also work.

Is this mainly a problem on movies and television programs that have
been made within the past few years? If so, perhaps not all of the
problem is your ears.
