The problem is each time I try to install I get a 'Grub hard disk error' on boot. I can't see where the problem lies. The hard disk is in working order. I go through the installation process carefully. Tried minimum setup as well as graphical set-up. I¢m not sure what else I can do to get the installation working. Can anyone help? Thank you | | | | 02-18-2004, 09:54 AM | #2 | | | Re: Grub Hard disk error In message <t9e6dz424log$.akrni4a7aavr.dlg@40tude.net>, Oz <Ozlondon99@hotmail.com> wrote >I have a second hard drive which I planned to install suse 9 on. >The problem is each time I try to install I get a 'Grub hard disk error' on >boot. >I can't see where the problem lies. If not, change them and try again. Thank you Kevin. For some reason it was off, and write cache was also disabled. | | | | 02-18-2004, 11:08 AM | #4 | | | Re: Grub Hard disk error >> > Have you checked that your BIOS has not been set to prevent writing to > the MBR ? Some manufacturers call this feature "virus protection" (sic). Got it working, thanks for the replies and help. LBA wasn't selected on the second drive. After that, Suse installed seamlessly. I'm in love, everything feels so smooth and fast. I guess it could be because its a fresh install, but windows *never* felt like that. Even the desktop (although same resolution) feels much bigger. I don't feel the need the maximise everything. The only problem I've encountered so far is that my ADSL connection is not recognised. I've had a search and many people seem to be having troubles with PIPEX and the Speedtouch modem. I just hope its not a major stumbling block. Thanks again | | | | 02-18-2004, 11:27 AM | #5 | | | Re: Grub Hard disk error In message <1gcfs3por2yrk$.1x263pgtezvk$.dlg@40tude.net>, Oz <Ozlondon99@hotmail.com> wrote >The only problem I've encountered so far is that my ADSL connection is not >recognised. I've been planning on sharing my internet connection. Is this what a router's for? Have no idea what an ethernet interface is! Looks like i've got some googling to do. Any website which you could recommend? | | | | 02-18-2004, 12:32 PM | #7 | | | Re: Grub Hard disk error > > Glad you're up and running! :-) > > On the Speedtouch, you might want to search in this newsgroup on > groups.google.com -- it's discussed quite a bit, but I don't usually > follow them since I don't have that system. yep, just found a couple on the subject. Looks promising, but hard work! I've got a fair bit to learn. My PC knowledge isn't the too great at the moment. | | | | 02-18-2004, 03:57 PM | #8 | | | Re: Grub Hard disk error On Wed, 18 Feb 2004 19:33:13 +0000 Oz <Ozlondon99@hotmail.com> wrote: > yep, just found a couple on the subject. Well, Linux is good at helping you learn! :-) Just take it slow and before you know it, you'll be a master at it . . . -- Kevin Nathan (Montana, USA) Open standards. Open source. Open minds.
