Resending since it appears to have dissapeared...
I am leasing a dedicated Windows 2000 server. The leasing company provides free DNS service for a single (1) domain and charge an expensive monthly fee for additional domains. I paid excessive DNS fees for a year and now I've registered with a DNS provider that offers much better rates. I would like to use this provider all of my domains as soon as possible but I'm afraid that something may go wrong when I change my "Prefered & Alternate DNS server". Is it safe to do this? I've already created the DNS records with the DNS provider. Is there something else that is necessary? Thank you. |

Another question that I have, if I do change the Preferred and Alternate DNS
server settings, do I have to change anything else? Thanks again |

This was the response that I got from the company who I am leasing the
dedicated server from: "There's no problem with having a 3rd party host the zone files for you. However, I would advise against changing what the server is using for lookups (the preferred and alt DNS settings) as this can cause alot of problems." Can this be true? I would really like to have the same DNS host for all of my looksups since I have e-mail (sending) problems and get an error indicating that my DNS settings don't match. |

Yes, it can if this is a domain controller or if it is a member of an Active Directory domain. Since you state you have problems sending mail, if you are using Exchange use of the proper DNS server is imperative. -- Best regards, Kevin D4 Dad Goodknecht Sr. [MVP] Hope This Helps ============================ -- When responding to posts, please "Reply to Group" via your newsreader so that others may learn and benefit from your issue.
