IP Masking/Hiding

Is there any free software which will hide/mask my IP Addrss while I am
surfing the net. I have had a few IP attacks recently, which were caught by
my Firewall, but I would like to surf anonymously now.

Cheers
Alan

First line of defense is a hardware router/firewall/NAT device (LinkSys,
SMC).

Second line of defense is software firewall (WinXP's, ZoneAlarm), along with
anti-virus.

Third line of defense would be to pay to use one of the anomyous proxy
servers (you redirect all of your HTTP traffic through their service and
pray that they don't roll over on you to the authorities).

Don't you trust your firewall?

Pay for a proxy server... now, you trust THEM. I think they are
untrustable.

Why is it so important? What have you to hide?

What would you define as an 'IP attack' ? Did someone hit you with a rolled
up copy of RFC 791 ?

Regards,

Pete.

surfing anonamously (Http proxy) wont stop attacks. Its not the websites
attacking you. Chances are youre just getting the usual traffic (subnet
scans)

there was a program made by cdc(cult of the dead cow) that gives anonymous web surfing. this was really made for china which has all those restrictions on websurfing

edit: i was wrong with who gets credit for making this program. but here is more info.

"Camera/Shy, a browser-based steganography application from HACKTIVISMO, will be released at the H2K2 Convention in New York City on July 13th. Camera/Shy was developed for democracy activists operating from behind national firewalls. It allows users to trade in banned content across the Internet. Camera/Shy is the debut release from Hacktivismo, a special operations group sponsored by the CULT OF THE DEAD COW. Hacktivismo offers technical solutions to the human rights community, and has over thirty associates from North America, Europe, Russia, Israel, Australia, Taiwan, and Korea."
