port 444 trick, or BS!?

Hey

I have a Windows XP Pro machine with mIRC. Someone asked me to put up a
RaidenFTP server, but open up port 444 becuase it is faster than any other
port. He says that when he FXP's into the server on port 123 he will get 10
Mbps but at port 444 he will get the full amount of bandwidth. Is that
possible? What vulnerability is this opening up?

Thanks!
Jack

Its bull, every port is the same as the others. Also, 10Mbps is pretty good
so even if it were true, I don't think anyone would complain if you put it
on port 123(or whatever port you wanted). As for the vulnerability, the
possibilities are endless.

The speed of communication could be controlled *if* there is some sort
of bandwidth limitation being imposed in between the two end-points in
the connection. Though I have my doubts that this is the case with this
individual's request.

Ok he was obviously trying to send you some ISO over to your server, from a 10mbit bredbandsbolaget.se ftp site
these are swedish links with a better than average for home use uplink downlink, and are used for distrobution this way. although they are 10mbit there is some routing issues to the certain parts in the uk where they will only go at a slow speed, unless you setup an ftp on yourself that is listening on port 81 or 444. this does actually work, and i no nothing much about networking so i dont really know why it does.
