Buy Australian City Navigator Australia V5, install it to your PC and upload
your maps.

That just about covers it.

MetroGuide gives far better 'out of suburbia' coverage than CityNavigator.
Best if you run both on your 2610 (as I do), and just 'deselect' CityNav
once you get to the outer suburbs. CityNav does list the major highways and
byways, but for the best GPS experience MetroGuide is a must. Both lots of
mapping easily fit on the 128 Mb card that will come with your 2610. Also
keep your software as up to date as possible, and regularly read newsgroups
to stay informed from those who know.

Thank you for your replies. Interesting that both the MetroGuide and the
CityNavigator can be loaded on the 128 Mb card. Was thinking of getting a
256 card for the CN software and using the 128 in the camera. Anyhow that
was my excuse to the Minister of Home Affairs.

My Garmin 2610 just arrived as I was typing this!!

Thanks Burnie and Stavros. Visited GPSOZ and had CityNav 5 installed.
Working great!

Now a question for the downunders as distinct for the upovers!

As anybody done an installation of the 2610 into the compartment under the
radio of a Holden Commodore VT/VX. If so, would like to have a bit of a wag
as to how they went about it.

Thanks,

Avsec

Avsec,

Fortunately my Verada has a 'full' dash already ;-)
God, I love my car!

You will need an external antenna if you're going to install 'in-dash'. MY
reason for buying the 2610 is the ability to move it between my car and the
car of "The Minister for Youth, Sport, and Recreation". Although she doesn't
need it often, the 2610 is available if she does, and after 26 years of
marriage, I can't afford to lose her!

Are you intending to buy the MetroGuide software too?

p.s. Avsec, check out the posts in the satellite-nav group too.

Gidday Stavros,

Spoke to a very helpful gent last night from Perth who not only told me how
to fit the 2610 into that spot under the radio but also e-mailed me the
drawings from the Holden Parts manual with all the details. It was very much
appreciated. He has fitted his extended aerial on top of the rear window
parcel shelf under the child safety seat anchor point flap so it can't be
seen. Apparently works well there.

Still debating about the MetroGuide but more than likely will end up with
it. One step at a time, got to let her get over the initial shock! BTW also
heard that a new version of that software maybe in the wind.

In the meantime we are still getting to know how to work the unit and
appreciate all its goodies. Not too sure about that shelia's voice - can't
decide between the pom and the yank.

Have been checking out other newsgroups as well as forums. Some pretty
helpful and interesting stuff.

Cheers,

Avsec
