Need help with PalmVx

I need help with the digitizer setup on a PalmVx. Occasionally, it =
gets out of alignment and I have to go thru Preferences->Digitizer to =
reset it. Right now, it is so far out of whack, I can't get to =
Preferences to fix it.

I tried a Hard reset and it let me go thru the digitizer setup and it =
was okay. When I Hotsynced the "bad" Preferences were restored and the =
digitizer is out again. I'm also using BackupBuddy so I don't know if =
the regular Hotsync or BB is restoring the Preferences that are bad.

Does anybody have a trick for getting it to the digitizer Preferences =
page or to keep Hotsync from restoring my old bad digitizer preference =
after a hard reset?

Thanks

It's BB. Hotsync doesn't back up unsaved preferences.

Don't let BB do a complete restore - make sure the preferences
don't get restored.

Stan:

I have already tried doing the restore with the "Saved Preferences" =
unchecked in BB but that didn't help. I went back to it and noticed =
that the check box for "Unsaved Preferences" was not checked so they =
should not have ever been saved or restored.

Any other way of preventing the prefs from being restored?

This is a well recognised problem with the Vx. I used to own a Vx myself
which had the problem. It cannot be fixed by any software fix but you can
take the Vx apart and re-seat the digitizer cable inside the unit. I have
done it and it fixed the problem. It requires a deep breath and a steady
hand but not technical skill. The instructions are on:
http://www.gethightech.com/Merchant2...Co de=_P5TAKE
If you are thinking of doing it I will give you more information.

Download a copy of DigiFix (free) and use it to set the digitizer after the
hotsync. It can be configured to run after a soft reset, so you can always get
to it.

Re: Need help with PalmVx

There is a free program called digifix (try at palmgear) which brings you
straight to the digitizer after a hard or soft reset.
If you are interested in the takeapart solution, my tips are:
1. You need to heat the Vx very hot to get it apart. As long as you don't go
near the screen you are ok.
2. Only take the back off not the front.
3. Backup everything before in case it all goes horribly wrong.
4. The thing that seems to cause the problem is the connection between the
digitizer ribbon cable and the connector. I painted some silver conducting
paint on the last 1mm of the digitizer strips (I got it from an electronic
shop) with a fine paintbrush to improve conductivity. Others have suggested
gently scraping the tip of the ribbon cable.
Best of luck.

I'll give the Digifix a try before I tear into it.
