Backup Buddy

Hi all
Is there a way to choose not to include backup buddy files when a hotsynch
is performed? Because it takes an awful long time to do a hotsynch with ALL
files on handheld and SD card being backed up. Besides, I don't see the use
of backing them all everyday !
Thanks for any help you'll give me
Have a great weekend
Martine

Re: Backup Buddy

Hello,
You can either disable the BB conduit in custom hotsynch setup or
inside the program you can pick and choose which programs/files do/do
not get backed up. I use the later to keep daily synch times shorter.

Run the BackupBuddy program on your PC and uncheck the box that says,
"backup applications and data on expansion cards." Then just check the
box again temporarily when you want to backup the card as well as the
internal memory. Also, within the BackupBuddy PC program take a look
any other boxes you may have checked that you might be able to turn
off to speed up the backups.

Or just pop out the card prior to the hotsynch. It can't back up what
is not there...

That is cool too, but if you hotsync several times a day like I do, I
would not want the wear and tear on removing/inserting the card ;)
That's why I leave the box unchecked until I want to back up the card.

I was thinking more along the lines of only occasionally wanting to
skip the backup of the card. I usually hotsynch once or twice a day,
and the only time I don't want to back up the card is if I'm in a
hurry.

Uncheck the option to back up the card when you don't want to
back up the card. Simple solution to a simple problem, and that's exactly
what I do when I'm using Backup Buddy to back up over an ftp connection
wrapped with stunnel.

It is easier (for me) to simply pop out the card on the occasion when I
don't want to back it up.

To temporarily disable the function from the desktop, I'd have to open
BB, uncheck the option, close BB, run the sync, open BB, recheck the
option and close BB. Seven steps.

To temporarily disable the function from the handheld, I just have to
eject the card before syncing then reinsert it when done. Three steps.

To each their own way.

Seven steps, but a lot less time than waiting for a full backup of Ram
and the Card on every hotsync :) But, like you say, to each their own
way. What seems pointless to one makes sense to another. LOL!

Yes, I understand. Like everything else, it seems everyone is
different. It always amazes me when I find a thread requesting a list
of everyone's favorite programs, and then the lists are Sooooo
different :) As far as backups, basically what I do is make various
changes and hotsyncs during the day (mostly these changes are in RAM
and not the card). Then at the end of the day, I use BackupBuddyVFS to
backup to the card, then check the box in BackupBuddy for the PC to
"backup applications and data on expansion cards", then uncheck the
box after that hotsync. Then weekly, I make a backup copy of my Palm
User Folder to another location on my hard drive and also to a CD. I
keep consecutive backups such as Backup1, Backup2, Backup3, etc. But,
like I say, everyone seems to have their particular preferences. I
think the important thing is to make sure to BACKUP FREQUENTLY! It
really angers me when I hear someone say that they had not backed up
for several weeks and then whine that they lost their data and want
suggestions on, "what do I do now?" Answer: suffer and learn your
lesson....LOL!
