Default javascript problem

Hello, I was wondering if anyone had information they
might be able to share with me about javascript.

All at once, on certain pages, instead of getting a
picture in a frame, I'm getting a blank frame with a
red "X" in the upper left hand corner. Sometimes,
instead of the red "X", it's a small frame with a red
square, a green circle, and a blue triangle in it. I was
told by a friend that it means the javascript isn't
working. I checked Internet Options, in the Advanced
mode, the JIT compiler for virtual machine is ENABLED,
under Security, Java permissions are set to MEDIUM
SECURITY, scripting of Java applets are ENABLED, and
under Privacy, the setting is MEDIUM.

Oddly enough, the System Restore function doesn't work,
either. I tried it, using two separate check points, and
it was unable to restore to those dates (which were valid
dates, marked in bold type). I've used the system
restore feature before and experienced no problems with
it. Since I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer when
it comes to PC problems, I'm at a loss as to what to do
next.

I'm wondering if I could use the "Restore" CDs that came
with my computer to overwrite the Java application /
System Restore and make it workable again, or would I be
making a mistake by doing that? This problem is becoming
very annoying, to say the least.

Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

The PC is an EMachine T1100 Intel processor, and I'm
using Windows XP Home with the Norton Systemworks
program, Sygate personal firewall, Window Washer, Spybot,
and SpywareBlaster programs.

Thanks so much for the help.

Doesn't sound like a JavaScript problem at all to me since rendering
pictures is not a function of JavaScript.

Have you check the browser's "Show Pictures" setting in
Tools...Options...Advanced?

I just checked the tools/options/advanced tab, and
the "show pictures" setting is checked. Any other
comments?

Thanks.

Tools > Internet Options > Security > ((Click on Internet Globe)) > Custom
Level

Make sure that under "Scripting" > "Active Scripting" is set to "enable"
