Default Removing useless XP-components

Hi to everybody!

As we are used to with MS every new version brings us a=20
load of new useless bullsh.. that fills our harddisks and=20
slows down our system.

XP seems to be extremely great with that!
Who can tell me, how I can get rid of all these nasty=20
things that come with the installation (and that you can't=20
avoid through a custom install), like moviemaker, IE, Media=20
Player, tutorials etc.? Even if you choose uninstall in the=20
control panel, the stuff is still there!!!

I only need the most basic XP OS, nothing else.

Please answer directly to ds_kl@gmx.de.

Thanks a lot

XPlite is a great utility to let you just do that... to get rid of
utilities in XP that seems un-uninstallable ....
if you go to start/run and type services.msc and hit enter it opens a screen
where you can disable some services aswell... be carefull here tho !

Installing xp should not slow down your system if it is able to run xp. On a
slow computer it may run slower than win98, but if your computer has the
needed power you won't notice any slow downs at all. If you have a fast
computer and xp runs slow then you have something wrong, most likely bad
drivers or spyware/adware.

I have never seen xp "slow" a computer down. If the computer is powerful
enough and a clean install is done, it will/shou7ld run fast.

You can't get rid of IE. It is integrated tightly into XP. Movie maker,
media player, tutorials.... none of these will slow your computer down and
neither take up much drive space at all. Your talking a few mb's here and I
assume your drive is 10-20 gig at the least.(it should be if it isn't).

It sounds to me like you either have an old win98 computer that your trying
to run xp on and it just doesn't cut it or you have driver or spyware
problems. I would look into what could possibly be slowing the machine down
rather than trying to blame ms/xp. Post back you machine specs to start
with.

I tested a computer about 1 year ago (my brothers - I am sad to say). The
computer (Gateway) was a dog. Took 10-15 minutes just to boot to the
desktop.

Test results: (my Brother is computer illiterate)

37 different virus
422 incidents of spywear (as per Ad-Aware)
37 additional incidents of spywear (as per SpyBot)

Cleaned everything off. His computer took off like a rocket (-:

I have not since found a computer with more afflictions!

You should not remove IE. IE 6 is soo much integrated into XP that it is
impossible to remove it without damaging XP.

Y.

I had a similar experience. No viruses but I used SpyBot
and AdAware to remove over 360 bits of spyware. Logon and
logoff speeded up, some software initiation problems went
away and keyboard, mouse and some goofy printing issues
cleared up.

Yup, the most common problem I find for a slow computer now-a-days is
spyware/adware/viruses.
