BTO-MacMini Price Drop.

I heard some feint murmurs about a fully customized Mini and how much it costs in comparison to other customized budget computers... I too was a little hesitant about this, but it appears Apple has allieviated the problem somewhat...

Bluetooth/AirPort Extreme upgrade for $100 ($30 drop), while offering the Bluetooth upgrade separately for $50. Apple is also offering 1GB RAM upgrades for $325 ($150 drop) and offering a faster 8x SuperDrive (with both DVD+/-RW functionality) for the same $100 upgrade price as its previous 4x SuperDrive. A hard drive upgrade to 80GB (from 40GB) is now $50 ($40 drop). The estimated ship time on BTO and standard configuration Mac minis is 3-4 weeks. Update: The BTO SuperDrive combines a 4x/2x/8x DVD+/-RW mechanism with a 16x/8x/24x CD-RW mechanism.
It's not the biggest price drop in the world, but its substantial, and narrows the gap a little bit. I think this might be in reaction to the 1000+ articles being written about Apple's "New Deal" with the Shuffle and the Mini... they just can't seem to get away from the press these days.

Seriously! :) Its getting annoying! I'm not going to turn down good press, but its like... geesh guys I thought we were in a war...

PS: New news post. "Apple ships Shuffles to overseas troops." ;)

Every little bit helps. I'm glad to see that Apple is addressing that problem. MacMinis were really creaping up their if you customized it. Also, nice to see that Apple is sending Shuffles to the overseas troops. Are they sending one for everyone?

I found another article about this too:

Quote:
Apple cuts Mac mini upgrade prices Apple has quietly cut build-to-order option prices for the Mac mini when purchased through the company's on-line store. ZDNN reports: "Upgrading the Mac mini to 1GB of memory initially cost $475--almost as much as the computer. It now costs $325. Apple also reduced the price for adding Bluetooth and AirPort Extreme to $99, a $30 drop, and it cut the price for upgrading to an 80GB hard drive to $50." More.

I was just suggesting that they should, it would be better than them using iPods right? Less distracting :)

I was watching something on the military, many, many officers/soldiers have iPods and use them all the time... even in tanks. Not if your a normal soldier, of course, and you need your senses about you, but I heard many of the people who have nice things like computer instruments, or are only concerned about gunfire, actually listen to them in the field... aside from when they are in a barracks/camp and are bored to hell.

No, really.

No, seriously.

I am seriously considering purchasing a Macmini just to get a feel for what macs are like. As i have never really used a mac except for the Old Macs when i was in Primary School about 10 years ago, i just figure now theya re affordable is as good enough time as any.

You know what would be cool? A Mac Mini with an LCD flip-top display, like they have for XBoxes. I don't have a laptop right now, but I might lay down 750 for that. Its cheaper than a laptop, and more powerful than most.

Im curious as to if they make a flip-LCD or an LCD that is the appropriate size for the mini & accepts a DVI/VGA port. I would totally hack that ;)
