I stopped using a Mac as my primary operating system right before OS X was released. So, I stopped using it after version 9. I started using it in early 7, so I think that would make it around 1993? Therefore, I've been using a Mac for about 11 years. | | | 12-19-2004, 11:54 AM | #2 | | Senior Member Join Date: May 2004 Location: Boston Posts: 261 | I started a long, long, long, long time ago. My first computer was a Mac Classic. That broke when I crashed the harddrive. I was four-five I think, I clicked "Erase Disk..." and then selected the external harddrive with the system disk. Back then, Mac's didn't come with an internal harddrive, you eaither bought one (which were HUGE btw) or you booted from your system disks every time you wanted to use it. Two disk drives were also a necessity. After that, we got a Mac Plus. That broke when my sister dumped some cola on it. We got a Mac Plus SE. That never broke ( I can still run it today! :) ), but it certainly got outdated. I then got a Performa, then I got a PowerMac 7200, then I got a g3, then g4, then another g4, then a g5, then another g5.... :) I guess I've been using Finder ever since it was around. I'd say I've been using the Mac for 18-19 years...depending on when I got the first one, and I can't really remember that. I remember when Macs were the king of adventure games. Although I couldn't really play Leisure Suit Larry until I was a little older (chuckle) Kings Quest, Gold Rush, Manhunt, and other Sierra Online games were definately my favorites. Also had an Apple IIe ;) Karataka, anyone? :) __________________ "This shaking keeps me steady. I should know. What falls away is always. And is near. I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow. I would love to get an iBook though. __________________ Max | | | 12-19-2004, 10:21 PM | #4 | | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Posts: 191 | I've never used a Mac outside of school either. | | | 12-20-2004, 12:08 AM | #5 | | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2004 Location: Secret Underground Layer In Kreplakistan Posts: 706 | I've never used a Mac as my primary machine.. only at school when I was younger, we had to use Macs.. and the old Apple II's. At home, we've had a PC for a long time. | | | 12-20-2004, 08:59 PM | #6 | | Member Join Date: Oct 2004 Posts: 52 | I used a mac SE my mom had when I was, I dunno, pretty young, but hardly used it. Then sometime early 90s she got a PowerPC at her office that I used. Then, for Christmas in 1998 we got an iMac at home, so that's I suppose when I suppose I really started using one. Then I bought my own, a 68k Performa, in fall 2000, and got an iBook for Christmas in 2001. The iMac is dead, though I may fix it if the part shows up on ebay. The 68k Performa still works, but I think I gave it away to a computer recycling program so they could give it to someone. And I'm typing this from the iBook. | | | 02-03-2005, 03:16 PM | #7 | | Registered User Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: United Kingdom Posts: 38 | One of my first jobs was selling Apple III & IIe computers out of a big HiFi store in London (1983). (Shortly after that I left to work for a company selling the 1st IBM PCs - I was paid double!). 1st Mac I used was a Lisa which is not exactly a Mac but was the first Apple to have a GUI. 1st Mac I owned was the Mac Plus, followed by a IIci then an LC2 then 7100 etc etc. Made my 1st 'video' on a Mac using Hypercard in late 1988. | | | 02-17-2005, 08:06 AM | #8 | | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Posts: 177 | I only ever touch a Mac at school. I probably would never buy one, however, the new MacMini is pretty sweet. I will agree about that. | | | 02-18-2005, 10:29 AM | #10 | | Senior Member Join Date: May 2004 Location: Boston Posts: 261 | Haaaa same as me. :) Except the computer you have in that link is way too nice compared to what I had at 6. Reminds me of my third computer. (9?). __________________ "This shaking keeps me steady. I should know. What falls away is always. And is near. I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow. I had the 638CD. Very nice computer, especially considering it was like 5 years old and I got it for $30 for printer, computer, and monitor. With a TV tuner card. Just needed more RAM and an ethernet card. And newer OS. It was great. | | | 02-21-2005, 04:21 PM | #12 | | Senior Member Join Date: May 2004 Location: Boston Posts: 261 | Wow, I remember that computer exactly, my friend had it. I was so jealous of the TV tuner! I forget the name of the Apple program that let you surf the television channels, but I do remember opening it up on my own computer and then getting miffed because I didn't have the appropriate connects ;) My neighbor made it sound like all Mac's had the card when they left the Mac Factory. Haa. Jerk. __________________ "This shaking keeps me steady. I should know. What falls away is always. And is near. I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
