Quote: By MAY WONG, AP Technology Writer SAN JOSE, Calif. - Retailers expected Apple Computer Inc.'s iPod music player to be a hot item this holiday season but are still struggling to keep up with demand. The colorful 4-gigabyte iPod Mini and the 20-gigabyte iPod are sold out at Amazon.com. Supplies at Circuit City stores are running out as soon as new shipments arrive every few days. Shoppers at Best Buy Co. Inc.'s online store are also out of luck on most iPod models, but that's because Best Buy is giving priority of the inventory they do have for shoppers at retail stores, said Brian Lucas, a spokesman for the nation's largest electronics retailer. | Thats too bad.. Is anyone here expecting one as a gift? Or looking for one to give? Good luck finding one. | | | 12-18-2004, 05:32 AM | #2 | | I <3 Windows Join Date: May 2004 Location: Connecticut, USA Posts: 2,353 | I learned last year that you have to do most technology purchases about two weeks before to insure that shipping gets there. I got screwed last Christmas when a present I was getting my dad came like two days late. The iPod is definitely this year's hot item and I'd expect nothing less than this. | | | 12-18-2004, 06:12 AM | #3 | | I <3 Windows Join Date: May 2004 Location: Connecticut, USA Posts: 2,353 | I just read another article about this. It has a great title: " Naughty, nice are irrelevant if Santa can't find any iPods" | | | 12-18-2004, 03:24 PM | #4 | | Senior Member Join Date: May 2004 Location: Boston Posts: 261 | Hey, its great press, as long as the iPod doesnt go the way of the tickle-me-Elmo, which is highly unlikely. I can say from personal experience that I know alot of people whom are expecting one/have asked for one. I have a roommate who wants to store his total of 50 songs on an iPod. 50 songs. I'm not lying. And he only wants an iPod. I also know alot of people who run cross-country and are jealous of their teammates who have the iPod with the iPod runners-band (it straps to your arm and lets you run with little interfereance, better than on your waist where it 'bounces'.), and want to get one as well. Surely, this product has gone from just being a media-geeks essential to a status symbol or a cultural icon. College bus drivers even use iPods to play music on their public transportation. I don't think I go a single day without seeing one someplace, somewhere. | | | 01-15-2005, 02:09 PM | #5 | | I <3 Windows Join Date: May 2004 Location: Connecticut, USA Posts: 2,353 | It turns out that Apple sold over 4 million iPods this holiday. | | | 01-15-2005, 04:23 PM | #6 | | Senior Member Join Date: May 2004 Location: Boston Posts: 261 | Good news for Apple stockholders! __________________ "This shaking keeps me steady. It was funny story trying to find the thing. I went to Circuit City and asked if they had any iPod Minis left and the guy looked at me and said: "yes, but only in 2 colors". I was like: "what colors?" and he said "in baby blue and pink". Thinking I didn't want them they almost turned away, but then I told him I'd take the pink one. :) I didn't tell him that it was for my girlfriend. :) :D | | | 01-18-2005, 07:38 AM | #8 | | I <3 Windows Join Date: May 2004 Location: Connecticut, USA Posts: 2,353 | That's a pretty funny story. :) I actually heard that hot pink was the last iPod to sell on the shelves. I guess you got lucky in that that was what you wanted. | | | 01-18-2005, 03:18 PM | #9 | | Senior Member Join Date: May 2004 Location: Boston Posts: 261 | Girls always get it easy! __________________ "This shaking keeps me steady.
