IWAM and IUSR accounts not created

Hello,
Our Local Area Network Administrator reports that the IWAM and IUSR accounts
are not being 'created' when IIS (I'm guessing the version is 5.0 or 5.1;
how do I find out?) is started/restarted? As I understand it, without these
accounts, the users cannot 'connect' to the web server. The O/S on the
machine is MS 2000 Server SP4 (not Advanced Server).

What should we do to begin troubleshooting this problem, and how can I
discover the version of IIS on the machine?

Thanks for your help!

Those accounts are created when IIS is installed. If it's Windows 2000,
it's IIS 5 ...

Re: IWAM and IUSR accounts not created

The LAN manager is telling me that the accounts are not there. I don't know
if he has tried uninstalling and reinstalling IIS, but would doing that
cause the accounts to show up, or would he have to do something else?

Is there a specific way that I can see the actual version number of IIS?

Thanks for your help!

Installing IIS should create the accounts. They could also be created
manually but you might have problems configuring IWAM. If you run into
issues, search the MSKB for IWAM and relevant error messages.

In ASP:
Request.ServerVariables("SERVER_SOFTWARE")

should tell you: Microsoft-IIS/5.0
